So I went to the carnival several weeks ago to ride a KMG Speed and planned on getting some leg footage. However, my mount had a hairline crack in the plastic so I decided NOT to ride it. If you look at the pictures below you will notice the official GoPro logo on one mount and a copy on the other. The copy mount has a crack where the strap runs through.
GoPro claims that they use good material for their products, which depends on the mount you will be using. I've had my hand mount and chest mount for several years now and have had zero problems with anything breaking. However, my official GoPro hat mount cracked just recently after never have being used. It is IMPERATIVE that both users and park officials check the mounts for any wear and tare before going on a ride.
I would highly recommend that when purchasing a mount you do not go with a cheap off brand or copy of an official GoPro mount. These mounts are most likely made in China, Taiwan, or some other place. They create an exact copy of the official GoPro mounts, but use very cheap material causing your mount to break very easily. GoPro mounts tend to not flex as much because of the harder material where the cheaper models do.
Finally, smaller parts such as hat clip and GoPro mounting clips tend to break easily even if rarely used. I never used my hat clip and kept it in a "grab bag" along with all my other small mounting pieces. Where you store your mounts and smaller pieces may also have a factor in them breaking more easily. If you keep various GoPro accessories in a bag with lots of other items then you may be more subject to them breaking if they were stored elsewhere.
GoPro will only offer a 1 year warranty of replacing their products and many of their smaller items are not sold individually requiring you to look for off brands.
Bottom line is ALWAYS check your equipment prior to use and again before you get onto a ride.
