Gimbal mounts on rides

Updated: May 9, 2019

I recently came across gimbal mounts being used for bikers and saw how stable the video recording was. Then I had the idea of how well would the video be if a gimbal was used on a roller coaster or flat ride with lots of flipping. The 2 gimbal mounts I was looking at were the EVO SS and the Slick. Of these two gimbals I personally like the Slick since it already has a bolt screw to attach the camera directly to the GoPro housing and is very compact. The EVO SS however, screws directly onto the camera and doesn't attach to the GoPro housing.

I'd be interested in finding out what the best mounting options would be. Some ideas include the following: chest harness, hand strap, helmet strap, and possibly shoe/leg mount.

Below are some links for reviews that I found.

List of manufactures for gimbal mounts

EVO

FEIYU TECH

GOPRO KARMA

HOHEM

REMOVU

SLICK

TAROT

Conclusion:

After looking at various gimbal mounts and reviewing the Busch Gardens camera policy, the following gimbals should be approved. Both of these mounts have a way to secure the camera in a case with minimum parts. The Removu can be used as a hand held device or mounted, but does not include a waterproof case for older cameras. The waterproof case can be purchased separately. My personal recommendation is SLICK since the camera can be mounted directly to the gimbal in a case. It may be a little more heavy, but is built to be compact.

REMOVU S1 $200

SLICK $300
