Filming without GoPro "Camera Sunglasses"

Updated: May 18, 2019

As more parks crack down on safety and rider restrictions, GoPros will be even harder to be allowed onto rides in the future. I find it interesting that parks will allow sunglasses and other types of eye wear on their rides that have to be secured by an athletic strap, but not a GoPro? A chest harness is not considered a secured item or even safe compared to sunglasses?

In order to comply with park polices in regards to no GoPros, the only alternative to on ride filming right now is through action camera sunglasses. Parks have yet to say anything about sunglasses not being worn. I wish GoPro would do something and work with the parks to creating a friendly on ride GoPro policy, or start manufacturing a sunglasses camera. Until support can be gained to creating a friendly GoPro on ride policy like Busch Gardens has adopted, camera glasses are the only way to go. Action camera glasses range anywhere from $100-$200 depending on the quality and features.

Here is a POV of a KMG Speed "Alter Ego" that I recorded using the IVUE Rincon glasses accidentally with 720 @60fps resolution. Speed pulls about 3.5-3.7Gs and my glasses and GoPro were all secure. Here is proof that GoPros are perfectly safe to use if stored correctly. I am using a hand mount and a chest harness.

Here are some action camera glasses:

AimCam Adjustable Sports Action Video Glasses $150

GoGloo $90

Coleman Vision HD $170

IVUE Rincon $170

OHO 4K waterproof $250

KAMRE $60

GoVision $115

ORBI Prime 360 glasses $400
