360 Cameras

Updated: May 17, 2019

I have seen some videos around on Facebook through Theme Park Review, In The Loop, and others where they recorded the rides in 360 degrees view. Using your mouse, you can pan around the recording and see everything happening around you. I haven't done much research in this area so here we will discuss the pros and cons of various cameras on the market and which ones might be best for roller coaster use.

When choosing a 360 camera the first thing we need to consider is how are we going to mount it. If you are using a chest harness then most likely you will get an obstructed view, however, a hand mount might be a better choice. Camera size, built in stabilizer, recording quality, and live streaming are also other features to consider.

Insta360 One X $400 and will need an attachment to mount it.

GoPro Fusion $380

Rylo 360 $400

Garmin VIRB $560

Fly 360 $300

Here is a video someone made using a GoPro Fusion 360, however, he recorded it without park permission and the camera was snuck onto the ride. He was also using a selfie stick, which should NEVER have been used. I'm surprised that he didn't get kicked out of the park or even caught.

I recently discovered 360 sunglasses. I think this would be a very good option to have.
